This past weekend, I worked on another DIY project, this time a necklace. It's a ribbon necklace, made from this tutorial from Behind the Seams. It turned out rather pretty. I took Trang's example and added some extra so there are more frills, more beads, more more more.
Here I incorporated the necklace into an outfit.
necklace- DIY, tree t-shirt - wet seal, black cropped jacket - macy's, olive skirt - forever 21, black & gray (unseen) tights - express, boots - gift
Made another Hobby Lobby run today. Here are some things I picked up. Organza, leopard-print broadcloth, turquoise ribbon and fake pearls for more necklaces, micron pen, sketchbook, and fray sealant. Excited!!
First off, I changed the playlist so that it doesn't automatically start up. I know a lot of people don't like it when blogs have music playing, so if you do want to listen to our fav songs, you have to click play for it to start playing. Also, because of Mixpod and YouTube's new agreement, a lot of our fav songs are unable to be played now. I'll try to fix that and find some more working songs. Sorry about that.
Anyways, I have been wanting to do this DIY for the loooongest time. Long. Time. Finally got around to it. Since it's a three-day weekend due to MLK Jr. Day, I thought "Why not waste some of that precious time?" and got to it. I followed the DIY instructions from Childhood Flames and got it done in around 2 hours, the time that it also took her to finish. It really is very simple to do and the finished product is very cute. I used some poly-satin that I had lying around from an old Humanities opera project. I am thinking about going to pick up some chiffon or something to create some more layers on top of this. I'll let you know if I end up doing it.
Not the best pictures; and I had to edit them for a more accurate color of the skirt. Sorry.
so i really wanted to try this out, and there are a slew of tutorials online now (just google "how to bleach denim"). and maybe mine didn't turn out exactly the way i wanted them to BECAUSE i was too lazy to go through all the steps... i ended up just laying a pair of old jeans on the floor and randomly dripping clorox over them, and the blotches ended up way bigger than i want them to be:
and i couldn't get really white spots either, just light blue. i might try dripping some more bleach on top of the lighter places to see if they'll turn white... i think they're alright though. if you like the look though, you should def. try it out yourself! or if you're afraid that you'll screw it up, you can buy them pretty much everywhere now, and they look a lot cooler than mine: (click for) urban outfitters for $70, target for $20. might just go buy some... ;D
also, on a semi-unrelated topic, like jane said, we're not going to be posting a whole lot this fall... but don't fret, go watch one of the 10000 awesome movies coming out this fall/winter!
like THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS, with the gorgeousss lily cole, johnny depp, heath ledger, etc. trailer:
and i will definitely be seeing: taking woodstock cold souls disctrict 9 9 where the wild things are adam the september issue coco before chanel youth in revolt & more........so many movies so little time! oh wait.. this hiatus is for...college apps...aghhh!!!!! ALSO EVERYONE GO SEE PAPER HEART IT IS THE CUTEST THING EVER!
this took me 6 hours. i'm not really liking how it looks anymore, so i might start over. my mom brought back like 20 huge black t-shirts for me to "play with." i'll keep you posted....
i made this banana bread last week and i finished it in like 2 days, it was delicious. and healthy. and it looked pretty so i'm posting a picture of it.
firstly, check out this ring i made out of electrical tape and fim strips... mary said it looked like a sculpture for mgm studios or something. :|
today, forever 21 launched its new collection "cirque 21." we love it. the clothes have more cute details than regular f21 stuff, and-dare i say it - look like they might be better quality too. here are a few favorite looks:
admirable performance, forever 21, even though you're a little late on the military-styling trend... we'll still be buying those jackets. click here to see the cirque 21 lookbook.
Me and Elaine both have Chictopia accounts now! Check us out. Elaine //////// Jane
The other day, I was bored so I decided to cut up one of my t-shirts. If you are Meichen, Rena, Kevin, or Robin, you will remember this shirt from the ones that we made for our Pi Day project in pre-calc last year. I decided the shirt could use some livening up so I would wear it more often, so... I cut off the collar, cut of the sleeve hems, and cut slits on the sides to make cut-outs. Simple and easy, done in five minutes, and now I've been wearing the shirt for.. a few days [okay, so sue me, I don't ever really change during the summer unless I go out or feel disgusting or whatever. I know, it's pretty gross =( But it's just like wearing PJs all day...for 4 days ina row]. I dunno what it is about cut-outs but they add a feeling of excitement and intrigue to the shirt. And cut-outs are everywhere right now anyways, so why not jump on the trend wagon? Yeah... [More DIY coming later -- I have a lot of shirts I need to make more wearable.]
Black star cut-out t-shirt = DIY White tanktop = Express $15? $8? I dunno, mom bought it Yellow belt = ?? Mom's Indigo pants = H&M $20?Gold ring belt [as necklace] = Mom's [Wow, my memory for prices sucks. Also, I obviously share clothes with my mom a lot. We wear the same size and usually like the same things so it all works out. Or I just steal things from her closet and her from mine... -.-" Hahaha]
Ever since winter or spring, me and Elaine have been talking about starting our own accessories line. Mainly of just simple pieces put together made from other objects. Well, last Friday, we finally got the ball rolling.... with electrical tape jewelry! Hahaha. Mary was making a pinhole camera when we were at her house, so while she was making it, we made some use of our time by making a bracelet [mine] and a ring [Elaine's]. Some pictures of my bracelet. Not gonna lie, electrical tape kind of remind me and Elaine of leather. [Elaine'll post pics of her ring later. It's supah cute.]
This is how it looks when worn. The diagonal detailing isn't very visible.
