ribbon necklace DIY

This past weekend, I worked on another DIY project, this time a necklace. It's a ribbon necklace, made from this tutorial from Behind the Seams. It turned out rather pretty. I took Trang's example and added some extra so there are more frills, more beads, more more more.

Here I incorporated the necklace into an outfit.

necklace- DIY, tree t-shirt - wet seal, black cropped jacket - macy's, olive skirt - forever 21, black & gray (unseen) tights - express, boots - gift

Made another Hobby Lobby run today. Here are some things I picked up. Organza, leopard-print broadcloth, turquoise ribbon and fake pearls for more necklaces, micron pen, sketchbook, and fray sealant. Excited!!

smurf.

I went shopping for the first time in six months in January. I hadn't stepped foot in a mall since July, but finallllly, on a glorious January day, I went to the Galleria. Gap was having a sale on their plain tights so I bought two, one in blue and one in mustard (in the previous entry).

When I first assembled my outfit in the morning, I didn't really think much of the tights. As the day went on, I realized just how bright and shockingly blue they were. Until, during the middle of band, I realized. I looked like someone from Avatar (a movie I still have not seen that I really need to see). Or maybe even a Smurf. "Does everyone else see this resemblance, or is it just me?" Since I wore this ensemble in January, right in the midst of the Avatar craze, I was really expecting someone to say something about what my legs resembled, but I didn't get any comments about it for the entire day. I think that's a good thing.

jacket - mom's, top - gift, shorts - ???, tights - gap $4, shoes - payless.

Speaking of shopping, here are some pictures from the Galleria trip with Elaine and Rena! Tried on so many pairs of lovely shoes, bought none of them. The most tragic loss? The Christian Siriano for Payless booties! They were only $18! And so beautiful! If only a little painful... So much regret.

puff skirt DIY

First off, I changed the playlist so that it doesn't automatically start up. I know a lot of people don't like it when blogs have music playing, so if you do want to listen to our fav songs, you have to click play for it to start playing. Also, because of Mixpod and YouTube's new agreement, a lot of our fav songs are unable to be played now. I'll try to fix that and find some more working songs. Sorry about that.

Anyways, I have been wanting to do this DIY for the loooongest time. Long. Time. Finally got around to it. Since it's a three-day weekend due to MLK Jr. Day, I thought "Why not waste some of that precious time?" and got to it. I followed the DIY instructions from Childhood Flames and got it done in around 2 hours, the time that it also took her to finish. It really is very simple to do and the finished product is very cute. I used some poly-satin that I had lying around from an old Humanities opera project. I am thinking about going to pick up some chiffon or something to create some more layers on top of this. I'll let you know if I end up doing it.

Not the best pictures; and I had to edit them for a more accurate color of the skirt. Sorry.

catch up

Well well well, if it isn't Ms. Absentee-Blogger.

[Yeahyeah, wearing those overused 3D-glasses-with-lens-popped-out. But I like them! Thanks, Eugene (:]

Apologies!! I feel like I have not updated in such a long time and it makes me soo sad!! =( I have missed posting dearly. School definitely ruins my fun. I basically put everything on the back burner when school starts, as is evidenced on getting behind on 1) Kpop news 2) fashion blogs 3) Lookbook.nu/Chictopia. Argh!!!! There are not enough hours in the day.

However, I did not put fashion news on the back burner! As is evidenced by my winning two lovely pink pencils from the Art Institute of Dallas because I answered some questions in a quiz correctly when a guest speaker came to talk to our fashion design class. Namely, I was the only person so far in the day [I have 5th period] to know that Christian Siriano is collabing with Payless for some more affordable Egyptian-style shoes and handbags [which I must get my hands on]. Okay, sorry, I just wanted to brag.

Anyways, here are some things I promised.

First, the TOMS shoes I decorated for my teacher during the summer. I've seen her wearing them a few times and it makes me happy anytime someone wears something I've made! (: [Sorry, picture quality is kind of crap because they're all blurry.]

Before.
Halfway through.Finished product.

Secondly, this is a random collage I made one night. It took me 2 hours and it broke my heart every time I had to cut out a picture when I liked what was on the back side of the page as well. It acts as inspiration to me now.

Also, we reached 200 members in our Facebook group and 2000 page views! The guys' clothing post will come.... soon?? I don't know, I'm doing my best!!

Here's my entry into the Chictopia+Forever21 "Back to School" Contest. Elaine and I really want to win because the prize is a $250 giftcard to Forever21 but I don't know what our chances are. We'll see!

Candies Short-Sleeved Pinstriped Blazer = Kohl's ??
Floral T-shirt = H&M $10?
Gray shorts = F21 $12?
Black floral lace leggings = F21 gift
Red Converse high-tops = gift

Also, expect another entry VERY soon. (: And I am superly excited to see the collections from NYFW. Can't wait to see what's in store for Spring 2010.

Phew, that was a long entry. Okay, that's it for now.

PS: Look, Chictopia has an article about the Anna Sui for Target line that Elaine covered a little while ago. Check it out here.

this girl just wanted to have fun

Okay. By now, I'm sure you guys have noticed that I looove to rummage through my mom's closet for clothes to borrow [AKA "steal"] and wear in my own way. However... today, I hit a different closet. I was bored [isn't this how all of my fashion adventures start out as? b/c of boredom?] and had the idea of making an old poncho into a skirt. So I went to the guest bedroom closet [AKA where all of my old baby clothes are stored]. I found the poncho.... and then some. I guess I live in a family of packrats, because my mom never threw away or gave away any of my old clothes [well, she did give away some, but I never had the heart to let her give away my favorite dresses when I was like 6. After that, I don't think she really gave away much of my other clothes]. She always told me, "Keep these for when you have children." [Although, honestly, I don't want children.] I found of some my old beloved dresses and some things I don't even remember having and some great hand-me-downs from my cousin. And, knowing me... I put them on. Yes. I put on clothes that I once wore when I was in 4th grade and younger. Oh dear god. [Actually, I still wear a lot of my childhood clothing.] [Are you guys tired of my commentary yet?] [How about now?]

Aren't you guys proud you know me? Ha ha ha... it's okay, sometimes I am even embarassed to know myself.

I paper-bagged this poncho [my favorite way to wear a skirt/pants! even though I've never done it before] that Alicia and her mom made for me for my birthday in... middle school? Yeah. I like how it has the same indigo tint as some of the flowers on my top. However, I think it makes me legs look a little stumpy and my hips a little chunky. So I'll probably never wear it in real life. But look at that fringe! Yeees, so trendy (: Also, it is soo soft. Maybe I will wear it like a normal poncho one day. Yeah, that's right, I'm bringing the poncho back. You know you missed it.

Wheeee, twirl!

Okay, this is the first real "childhoold" piece of clothing I put on. I was attracted by the plaid. I love this combination of colors for plaid. And it has cute pleating and an empire waist and cute wooden buttons and the perfect pockets! How could I decline? Although I'm sure this is WAY shorter on me now than it once was......

LOLOL CHECK OUT MY HAIR. That is the tallest bun I have probably ever made.

I'm pretty sure this was my cousin's dress and is a hand-me-down. I love it now though. Doesn't it remind you of a figure ice skater's dress or something?! Also, lovelovelove the sleeves. Poofy shoulders ftw. And yes, I am wearing shorts and a tanktop underneath -- I have some decency, you know. AND, contrary to popular belief, my legs are NOT this tan. Trust me. They aren't. Even though you will all say they are. They aren't. They will be though, after band camp.

Okay, this next dress is a tragic pairing. It was once my favorite favorite favorite dress. Trust me. Favorite. So much so that as I am typing at this, I am also looking at my school picture from 4th grade and I am wearing this dress in it. However, today, when I tried to "slip" it on over my head, It wouldn't fit. My shoulders are too wide!!! I was so sad. So instead... I concocted [not really; I just really couldn't fit my other arm through the arm hole] this one-shouldered ensemble. Not too shabby, eh? Eh? ... Yeah, I will also never wear this out. But I love this dress! Sigh. [Btw, can you see my thought process through this series of pictures? 1) Hm..... 2) Testing out the bat-wing sleeve. 3) I like!]

Okay, here's the picture I was talking about. Yes, go ahead and laugh. I know you want to. It's okay, because I did too. But this is the proper way to wear the dress. Cute button and collar details! Also, did you guys love Sanrio as much as me and my friends did in elementary school? I found this picture in my old Pochacco planner. He was my fav, because he was a dog, and I wanted a dog so badly.
Alright, last oufit. This is a matching jean vest and skirt ensemble. Jeans make you think of a cowgirl, right? NOT SO. There is a little collar on the vest that makes this look so sailor-themed! Yes, that's right. Jane, the sailor-cowgirl, at your service.

Land, ho! Howdy y'all.

This is THE ultimate way to be a recessionista -- to save clothes from when you are a kid and wear them when you're almost an adult. Save it for my future children? Pshhhh, I'll wear it now!

show those pearly whites

Today, I GOT MY BRACES OFF!

Yes. I was very excited. I posted my picture everywhere over the Internet. Sorry ='(

Anyways, to celebrate, my mom treated my dad and I to dinner at Japon. We had a hibachi-style dinner, which was SO cool. It's when the chef cooks in front of you and he did all these cool tricks. Man, it cost so much and wasn't the best meal I ate but the show was worth it.

My mom did not like either of the outfits I donned today. =( She also went around telling everyone about how much I couldn't stop smiling at myself in the mirror. So embarassed! x__x Heh....

NOW I CAN SMILE IN PICTURES! Not that I didn't smile in pictures while I had braces [for 3 1/2 years, mind you], but now you won't see a whole bunch of metal.

Outfit for going to the orthodontist:
Black top with asymmetrical star collar = Urban Outfitters $10
Coral tank top with metallic sequin detail = Old Navy $8
Purple shorts = H&M $12...?
Leather belt worn backwards = Dad's
Red flats = Charlotte Russe $10...? [Not pictured]
[Sorry you can't really see the shorts; you'll see them in the next pic.]

Outfit for dinner [basically, I just changed the top]:
Pinstripe short-sleeved blazer = Kohl's $??
White lace tanktop = JCPenny $15?
Purple shorts = H&M $12...?
Leather belt = Dad's
Red flats = Charlotte Russe $10...? [Not pictured]

do it yourself

Me and Elaine both have Chictopia accounts now! Check us out.
Elaine //////// Jane

The other day, I was bored so I decided to cut up one of my t-shirts. If you are Meichen, Rena, Kevin, or Robin, you will remember this shirt from the ones that we made for our Pi Day project in pre-calc last year. I decided the shirt could use some livening up so I would wear it more often, so... I cut off the collar, cut of the sleeve hems, and cut slits on the sides to make cut-outs. Simple and easy, done in five minutes, and now I've been wearing the shirt for.. a few days [okay, so sue me, I don't ever really change during the summer unless I go out or feel disgusting or whatever. I know, it's pretty gross =( But it's just like wearing PJs all day...for 4 days ina row]. I dunno what it is about cut-outs but they add a feeling of excitement and intrigue to the shirt. And cut-outs are everywhere right now anyways, so why not jump on the trend wagon? Yeah... [More DIY coming later -- I have a lot of shirts I need to make more wearable.]

Black star cut-out t-shirt = DIY
White tanktop = Express $15? $8? I dunno, mom bought it
Yellow belt = ?? Mom's
Indigo pants = H&M $20?Gold ring belt [as necklace] = Mom's
[Wow, my memory for prices sucks. Also, I obviously share clothes with my mom a lot. We wear the same size and usually like the same things so it all works out. Or I just steal things from her closet and her from mine... -.-" Hahaha]

Ever since winter or spring, me and Elaine have been talking about starting our own accessories line. Mainly of just simple pieces put together made from other objects. Well, last Friday, we finally got the ball rolling.... with electrical tape jewelry! Hahaha. Mary was making a pinhole camera when we were at her house, so while she was making it, we made some use of our time by making a bracelet [mine] and a ring [Elaine's]. Some pictures of my bracelet. Not gonna lie, electrical tape kind of remind me and Elaine of leather. [Elaine'll post pics of her ring later. It's supah cute.]

This is how it looks when worn. The diagonal detailing isn't very visible.
